General Questions
  • How long have you been raising butterflies? I raised my first butterflies in 1997 and created Butterfly BC in 1998.
  • What is "butterfly wrangling"? Adele is an experienced butterfly wrangler for film and television, starting in 1999. Wrangling is safely using the butterfly's natural reaction to temperature, light and movement in order to encourage a certain behaviour.
  • Where have you wrangled butterflies? The Breyer's Ice Cream "Dreamscape" commercial (Eastern Black Swallowtail); the "Crocodile Hunter" Action Figure commercial for Radio Shack (Painted Ladies); and the film "Air Bud IV" (Monarchs).
  • When can butterflies be released? Butterfly season is from about May to September (depending upon the weather).
  • What is included in a butterfly release? Everything you need to safely & easily care for your butterflies, including an aviary, butterfly nectar, release and care instructions, and my own Butterfly Blessings & Memories booklet.
  • What if it rains on the release day? You can display your butterflies and then release them when the weather improves. All care information is provided..
  • Is it safe to ship butterflies? Yes, butterflies go into a state of hibernation called 'diapause' so they are quiet and not under stress and sleep during shipping. Butterflies go into diapause naturally when temperatures drop, so they conserve energy and waken when temperatures rise.
About Me
  • Where are you located? And can we come visit the butterflies? I'm located in British Columbia's Fraser Valley and I'm always asked about tours of our location, and well, I would love to be able to provide that service - but that will have to wait till I can expand to a larger property! I will keep you posted!
  • What are your hours? I am available via email at any time.
  • Are you available for presentations to garden clubs, schools and community groups? Right now I have limited time during butterfly season to offer presentations, but please email to see if it might be arranged for you.
